General Midi + Mt 32 setups for Games (DOOM :) ) -------------------------------------------------- Hi everybody! I hope these two files will be useful to you: they contain two setups for the Roland D series of keyboards ( D5 (tested) D10-D20-D110 (not tested but should work)): a General MIDI se- tup and a MT-32 setup. All the work was done using the Excellent EXPLORER 32 from C-Labs on the Atari ST ( if somebody know the e-mail address of C-LABS PLEASE send it to me... the editor has a little bug and I would like to know if they released patches etc.) which allowed me to sort the timbres and to easily make new sounds when needed. These setups are never so accurate since I'm not really good at creating sounds and since some sounds just can't be created ( say 'applause' or 'gun shot' or 'helicopter', the sounds included are very rough approximations...). To load these setups simply play them with a midi file player NOTICE: THESE SETUPS BYPASS MEMORY PROTECTION SO BACKUP ALL YOUR KEYBOARD DATA BEFORE LOADING THEM. Some GM timbres were taken from some disks I don't remember the origin so that if a sound is copyrighted by somebody please let me know and I'll remove it from these setups. The general MIDI setup works well with DOOM but doesn't with other games that use the full General MIDI specs since the D series of keyboards reacts only to 8+1 channels at a time while General MIDI uses ALL of the 16 available channels at once: this is the reason I've included even the MT32 setup. I use a Soundblaster 16ASP with the keyboard connected to the line-in of the card so that I can use its built in mixer: other setups are still possible... anyway I HAVE to say that the midi cables of the package for the SB are DAMN TOO SHORT and , since they end with a MALE, I had to do some soldering in order to make them reach my keyboard: NO ONE seems to stock FEMALE-MALE MIDI cables: I think that Creative should provide FE- MALE outs to its MIDI kit since MALE-MALE cables are standard in the MIDI 'society;. OF COURSE YOU USE THESE FILES AT YOUR OWN RISK AND I SHALL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING WRONG THAT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU TO YOUR KEYBOARD AND TO EVERYTHING YOU OWN: NO GUARANTEES EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! These setups are helpware: if you find them useful go out there and help somebody, you'll find a way to do it: money isn't everything, human time sometimes is more important.
