  WINDOWS 3.1/95/98/ME/XP/etc.:

You can use "Extractor" with Windows (no "installation" required) instead of
using Dos mode or a Dos "box" by clicking on "Start" (Windows 3.1 "File") and
"Run". See "XTRACT.TXT" for more information.

  THREE IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. "XTRACT" file name is used instead of "EXTRACT". Dos 7X uses "Extract"
as a command.

  2. "TEXT" MODE:

Although an entire screen line is always highlighted ("marked") when only a
CR (carriage return) exists at the beginning of the screen line, the CR is the
only character, for that "line", to be extracted. Also, anything up to a CR,
including the CR will be extracted (lines with a CR).

  3. RAW MODE "BYTES" REPORT:

The "Bytes" number is relative. Every time the bar is moved down, 80 bytes
is added, and vise versa. If the file ends short of a full line (last line is
less than 80 bytes), the "Bytes" report will still indicate a full line.
However, if the end of the file is marked for extraction, the actual end
(nothing more) will be transferred into the new file.

  "TEST.DAT" FILE:

I have included this file so you can try out the extract and trimming
features in the "Raw" mode.

"RAW" MODE TRIMMING DEMO (Extracting all the "K"s):

View "TEST.DAT" in Raw mode. Begin "marking" the line (first line) where
the "K"s start. Move the marking bar down until you have marked all the
lines that contain "K"s. If you go too far, simply use the unmark function.
Now, press Esc to exit the viewer, and select "1" to extract the marked area.
You will be prompted for a filename, so enter "TEST" (example). Next, you
will see the first line of the marked area with the option to trim it. Move
(use left & right cursor keys) the pointer over to the first "K", and press
Esc. Next, you will be presented with the last line of the marked area. Move
the pointer (right to left) to the last "K". Now press the Esc key. Your
"TEST" file will be created.

To check the results, simply exit to the Viewer and view the file, "TEST"
(use Backspace to remove ".DAT"). You should see all "K"s and nothing else.

NOTE: If you "marked" more than one area, the "start" and "end" lines
trimmer (option) will be presented again (for each marked area).

  TIP:

For using Extractor in Dos mode or in a Dos "box", put "XTRACT.EXE" in the
"COMMAND" sub-directory/folder to the "WINDOWS" (95/98) directory or in the
"DOS" directory if you have Windows 3.1 or Dos only. This allows you to
launch "XTRACT" anywhere as you do with any Dos command/utility.
