Q: What is the difference between AVIRA for Unix Server and AVIRA
   WebGate?

A: AVIRA for Unix Server is an on-access and on-demand malware scanning
solution. Using this product you will be able to perform virus scans
on the file system of the server (e.g. if you use your Unix server
as a file server with Samba).
AVIRA WebGate is an HTTP/FTP proxy service which scans all data
downloaded from the Internet for viruses and malware.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How does AVIRA WebGate work?

A: AVIRA WebGate acts as a intermediary between the clients and the
Internet. The clients configure their Internet browsers to use
the AVIRA WebGate service as a proxy server so that all their
Internet data transfers are scanned using the AVIRA antivirus
   engine.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Which Linux distributions does AVIRA work with?

A: AVIRA works independently of Linux distributions.
The program is available for downloading as a zipped TAR file (TGZ)
and can therefore be installed on all Linux systems.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Where can I find updated versions?

A: The latest product versions can always be found in the download
section of our site. Please point your browser to the following
   address:

     http://www.avira.com/download/

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Will AVIRA WebGate work on anything other than the Intel
   x86-compatible processor?

A: Not yet. AVIRA WebGate will be available for other processors, if
there is sufficient demand for it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What is the meaning of the message "can't initialize scan engine!"?

A: This message appeares if AVIRA WebGate couldn't initialize the
AVIRA scan engine. "avira" binary needs writing permissions for
/tmp directory. Please make sure that the correct permissions are
   set for this directory.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What is the meaning of the message "init failed, err=6"?

A: This means that your AVIRA directory contains a wrong virus
   definition file (VDF).
The definition file must coincide with the program version, i.e. the
first two digits of the version numbers must be the same in both
   files, e.g. 1.2.x.x).

You need to update your definition file; run the following command:

      avira --update

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: I have copied the activation key in AVIRA program directory,
but the Update Service still does not work. Why?

A: Your licence has probably expired. If you want
to extend your AVIRA WebGate licence, please contact
us or the closest AVIRA partner.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: AVIRA updating process fails with the "Error: integrity selftest
   FAILED" message. What's wrong ?
Q: AVIRA MailGate service startup fails with the "program file
(aiwebgate.bin) self check failed" message. What's wrong ?

A: Most likely you are running Fedora Core and you have prelinking
enabled. To see if prelinking is enabled on your machine run
   the following commands:

   rpm -qa | grep prelink
   cat /etc/sysconfig/prelink | grep PRELINKING

To disable prelinking for the AVIRA binaries add the following
   lines to /etc/sysconfig/prelink.conf:

   #AVIRA blacklist
   -b /usr/lib/AVIRA

If you want to disable prelinking completely, change
   "PRELINKING=yes" to "PRELINKING=no" in /etc/sysconfig/prelink .

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How can I test AVIRA WebGate after installation?

A: There is a test signature called EICAR, which is detected by all
virus scanners. Simply download the EICAR test file and browse to
this file through the AVIRA WebGate proxy service.

To get the EICAR code please visit www.eicar.com .

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How can I make the installer/uninstaller run more quickly ?

A: Use the "--nosleep" parameter, e.g.:

     ./install --nosleep

   or

     ./uninstall --nosleep webgate
