* Description

AVIRA WebGate v 1.1.1-1r8 [Linux] is an anti-virus solution which 
protects your network against viruses and other malicious software by
scanning, filtering and if necessary blocking access to all unwanted
programs from the Internet.
AVIRA WebGate v 1.1.1-1r8 acts as a web proxy, scanning all incoming 
and outgoing HTTP and FTP traffic.


* Components

AVIRA WebGate security software consists in the following program
modules:
- AVIRA Engine, the scanning and repairing module;
- AVIRA Updater connects to Internet and automatically updates AVIRA 
  programs;
- AVIRA Web Proxy Module supervises HTTP and FTP network connections.

* Features

- Intuitive installation and configuration;
- On access scanner;
- Scans all data exchange with the Internet;
- Adware/Spyware Detection Support, in addition to the detection of 
  jokes, dialers and many forms of malware. This option has been 
  implemented in the antivirus engine for both on-access and  
  on-demand scan processes. Moreover, the AVIRA detection technology
  also recognizes Security Privacy Risk applications (SPR), Unusual
  Runtime Compression Tools and Double Extension Files;
- Webmail examination;
- Built-in archive support;
- Heuristic detection for both macro and Win32 viruses;
- Timeout function;
- Non-privileged user mode increases system's security;
- Notification and reporting features;
- Automatic Internet Update;
- Self Integrity Program Check.

* Enhancements

- new parameters can be used when configuring the scanner: apart
  from the usual categories like Games, Jokes, Dialer, Backdoors, the
  following types of malware are implemented: 
  	- Adware/Spyware 
	- Unusual Runtime Compression Tools 
	- Double Extension Files 
  At the same time, the prefix PMS (=Possibly Malicious Software)
  was renamed SPR (=Security Privacy Risk);

- the prefixes used in malware detection messages have been
  expanded, for more clarity;
  
- enhanced system security: WebGate now also runs in a non-priviliged 
  user mode (non admin mode);

- a new website error template "error.html" was included (e.g. unable 
  to connect to host);

- new alert template variables for displaying client and server 
  addresses: %DETERMINED_CLIENT_ADDRESS% and
  %DETERMINED_SERVER_ADDRESS%;
  
- Scanning SAP archives;
  
- New parameters:
    - ICAPPort - port for ICAP v1.0 support 
      ICAPPort [hostname_or_ip:] port
    - RefreshInterval - maximum interval between status updates, in 
      seconds.
    - RedirectInterval - delay time for sending redirect messages, in 
      seconds.
    - MoveConcerningFilesTo - by default, blocked files are discarded.
      But you can specify a quarantine directory for the concerning
      files.
    - User and Group - the user to which WebGate will switch to:
      AVIRA WebGate will switch the user and group as soon as possible,
      after startup. You must run it as root initially, but you can
      specify a user and group  here. Default:
      User 65534
      Group 65534
    - SapCarProgram - specifies the path to the SAP archives unpacking 
    tool (avira.conf configuration file).

* Fixed Bugs

- the product no longer fails to restart after update in some 
  situations;
- Gentoo init script for new baselayout compatibility;
- the init script no longer fails to stop service under Debian Linux.

* System Requirements

- Platform: i386;
- Operating System: Linux with 2.2 Kernel and GLIBC 2.2 or better;
- 8MB free harddisk space for product installation;
- 100MB free harddisk space for the working directory 
  (1GB recommended, depending on data transfer);
- 32MB free memory space (64 MB recommended).
