64 Messenger

Messenger Software

Introduction:

Messenger Software is Jerry Balk and Joe Hess. Like many BBS programmers, this is likely their greatest and only business accomplishment.

64 Messenger is another BBS program near and dear to me due to the fact that I ran it briefly during my trials with Zelch 64. It has a nice selection of modifyable options and text files, a remote SysOp menu, and it's about as stable as they come.

It suffers, however, from being fairly badly written. The program suffers from frequent bouts with garbage collection, memory constraints, and no support for PETSCII. The programmers did fit all that they could into the program however, and managed to make it as tight and workable as they could.

This was the only grab I could get from this program.

The program itself is highly modular, but doesn't really feel like it since the several areas can be navigated easily back to the main menu by hitting the return key. The message bases are a fairly typical linear style, and the message maker is minimal.
