                           INSTALLATION NOTES
=============================================================================

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  - From BIOS R25 on, SMBIOS strings (Type 1, 2,3) storage area moved to
    BIOS Non-Volatile storage area. If the replaced BIOS is older than R25,
    please clear event log before BIOS update (by iFlash32). Otherwise, it
    may cause the SMBIOS strings display & update failure.
    (How to clear event log: Enter BIOS Setup by F2, go to Server Management
     Page, for question 'Clear Event Log', select 'Enabled', then Save&Exit).

  - iFlash32 could only update the flash that the system boot from. For example,
    if system boot from FWH, iFlash32 can only update the FWH flash; if system boot
    from SPI, iFlash32 can only update SPI flash.

  - Recovery feature is only available on S3000AH platform.

UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS:

- by iFlash32
    boot to DOS:
    iFlash32.exe ah86047.cap /u

                        BIOS RECOVERY INSTRUCTIONS
=============================================================================
Recovery process can be initiated by setting the recovery jumper (called force recovery)
or invoked because of flash damaged.

A BIOS recovery can be accomplished from ATAPI-CD. ATAPI-CD image for recovery is created
using El-Torito format image (which is bootable).

The recovery media must contain the following image file: FV_MAIN.FV under root directory.
The system should also contain a DOS bootable disk (HD, USB drives or CD, etc.)
which must include the following image files:
1.	IFLASH32.EXE
2.	*.CAP
3.	AUTOEXEC.BAT

The BIOS starts the recovery process by first loading and booting to the recovery
image file (FV_MAIN.FV) on the root directory of the inserted ATAPI-CD.
This process takes place before any video or console is available.
Once the system boots to this recovery image file (FV_MAIN.FV), user should select
booting the DOS disk which contains the above file list. The further process would
load and execute the AUTOEXEC.BAT and the flash update application (IFLASH32.EXE).
IFLASH32.EXE requires the supporting BIOS Capsule image file (*.CAP).
Once the recovery process is complete, it waits for a user to switch the recovery
jumper back to normal operation and restart the system by doing power cycle.

The following steps illustrate the recovery process:
1.	Insert recovery media (ATAPI CD) with the FV_MAIN.FV on the root directory.
2.	Insert the disk with all the required files (IFLASH32.EXE, AUTOEXEC.BAT, *.CAP).
    User could also put all the files in both step 1 and 2 together into one disk
3.	Change the recovery mode jumper (BIOS RECV from normal operation to recovery operation.
    The details of the jumper can be found in the Board EPS.
4.  Power on the board.
5.	The BIOS POST screen will appear and display the progress. BIOS continues to
    boot to DOS from the media.
6.	AUTOEXEC.BAT file is invoked and it will initiate the flash update (IFLASH32.EXE)
    with new capsule file (*.CAP). The message will be displayed if flash update succeeds.
    If flash update fails, it will be notified to the user.
7.	Once the flash update is completed, revert the recovery jumper back to normal operation.
8.	Perform the power cycle.

=============================================================================
                            KNOWN ISSUES/WORKAROUNDS
=============================================================================
- update flash with any previous BIOS releases before R34 may cause BIOS Setup
  configuration incorrect, which in the worst case make system boot failure.
  For future BIOS releases, roll back to the BIOS after R34 (inclusive) would
  be OK. For BIOS releases older than R34, if system failed to boot, clear
  CMOS is a workaround method.
- When use DMIDOS utility to update Board System Information on WinBond W25X16
  SPI chip, sometime an error will occur when Chassis Serial Number is being
  updated and cause system halt.
