[Problem fixes] Nothing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED There are two ways for version check. (A) On Windows (B) On BIOS Setup Utility (A) On Windows 1. Start the ThinkPad Configuration program. Click Start, select All Programs (or Programs), select ThinkVantage, and then click ThinkPad Configuration. 2. Click the System Information icon. 3. Click the BIOS information tab. BIOS version and Embedded Controller version will be displayed. 4. Click OK to exit. (B) On BIOS Setup Utility 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - This package is for Machine Type 2883, 2887, 2888, 2889, 2894 and 2895 of ThinkPad R51. For the other machine types of ThinkPad R51, please get the package for them. - This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.03 or higher. Obtain the additional package, Embedded Controller Program Version 1.03 or higher, and update the Embedded Controller Program in the system with it. - If you need to update Embedded Controller Program as well as the BIOS, update BIOS first. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATING BIOS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program (BIOS). - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is write-protected. - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the system program (BIOS) in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment. Attention: Do not turn off, suspend the computer or remove the diskette until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. 1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 2. Make sure an diskette drive is attached to the computer. 3. Insert the write protected System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select Update system program and follow the instructions on the screen. Note: If you are updating the system program through the USB external diskette drive, it will take quite a long time to complete reading the system program file, but it is normal. Continue the update. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INITIALIZING BIOS BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. 8. Power off or restart the computer. "Timer Wake with Battery Operation" option in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility is set to disabled. 2. In the Windows XP Power Options properties, both "System standby" and "System hibernates" for "Running on batteries" are set. The timer setting of "System hibernates" is longer than that of "System standby". 3. The computer is running on the battery. 4. The computer goes into standby mode by following the timer setting of the "System Standby" option, and then is in idling state longer than the time which is set in the "System hibernates" option. 5. Let the computer resume normal operation from standby mode. - --- Support for a new revision of power management chip on the system board. <1.11> (1VET53WW) Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.01 or 1.02. - (New) Support for a new option, "Require password after hibernate" in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility. This is to enable/disable scheduled wake up events if the computer is not connected to the AC adapter.
