Lucent Modem driver for Linux

This package provides the Modem driver for Linux. The Modem driver
enables or updates the function of the ThinkPad LT MiniPCI Modem of
the following ThinkPad computers.

 - ThinkPad 390X (with Internal Modem)
 - ThinkPad 570E (with Internal Modem)
 - ThinkPad 600X (with Internal Modem)
 - ThinkPad A20x, A21x, A22x (with MiniPCI Modem)
 - ThinkPad T2x (with MiniPCI Modem)
 - ThinkPad X20

This program is in US English but can be used with any language system.


Special requirements
--------------------
- To install this driver, you must be logged into Linux as the "root"
  user.
- If you are upgrading from a previous Lucent modem driver, please
  uninstall the existing Lucent modem driver (according to the uninstall
  instructions for that driver) before installing the new one.
- The modem driver package includes some source code that must be
  compiled against the Linux kernel. Although the installation script
  handles the compilation automatically, you must ensure that the source
  code for your Linux kernel is installed and accessible via the directory
  /usr/src/linux, and that it the kernel source code and corresponding
  ".config" file match the kernel that you are running. Instructions for
  installing the kernel source code are beyond the scope of this document.
  However, you can refer to our Linux certification reports
  (http://www.linuxcare.com/labs/certs) for assistance.
- Once installed, the Lucent modem can be accessed via the
  device /dev/ttyS14 or via the device /dev/modem. Configure your modem
  applications to use those devices.


Installation Instructions
-------------------------

Step 1
To install the Lucent modem driver in LINUX, you need to run
the install script "make install" from the command prompt.
This will install both the Lucent modem controller driver
ltmodem.o and the Modem serial interface driver ltserial.o.
To install the modem driver you must be logged on as root.

Step 2
To use the Lucent modem, you can configure "minicom" for the
modem device.
Enter "minicom -s" at the command prompt.
Choose "Serial Port Setup"
For "Serial Device" choose "/dev/modem"
Save settings and start using the modem with minicom.


UNINSTALLING THE MODEM DRIVER

Following are the steps to follow to uninstall the Lucent driver
for Linux.

Step 1
To uninstall the Lucent modem driver in LINUX, you need to run
the uninstallation script "./ltuninst" from the command prompt.
To uninstall the modem driver you must be logged on as root.
