What This Package Does ----------------------- This package provides the Ethernet driver and the PROSET utility program for Windows 2000 users. This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad R30 To determine if you need to update the Ethernet driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section below. To update the Ethernet driver, refer to the "Installation instructions" section below. No driver functionality change was done, the driver version number did not change at this time. If your driver version is 5.40.11.0, you do not need to update the driver. If you need to change Ethernet settings, install the PROset II utility. <5.40.11.0a> - (Fix) Can not install by ThinkPad Software Installer. NOTE: There is no change to the driver itself. If you have already updated the system to this version, you do not need to apply this release. Installation instructions ------------------------- Ethernet Driver 1. Start Windows 2000 and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click the System icon. 5. Click the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window. 6. Click the Device Manager button. 7. Expand the Network adapters section. 8. Right-click Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter(10/100) and select Properties. 9. Click the Driver tab. 10. Click the Update Driver button. 11. Click the Next button. 12. Click Display a list of the known drivers for this device, you can choose a specific driver. 13. Click the Next button. 14. Click the Have Disk button. 15. Type C:\DRIVERS\W2K\ETHERNET. 16. Click the OK button. 17. Click Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter(10/100) in the list. 18. Click the Next button. 19. Click the Next button. 20. Click the Finish button. 21. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. PROSetII Utility Note: Please install Etherner driver first. 1. Start Windows 2000 and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\W2K\ETHERNET\Utility\PROSet2\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- Ethernet Driver 1. Start Windows 2000. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window. 5. Click the Device Manager button. 6. Expand the Network adapters section. 7. Select Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter(10/100). 8. Right-click Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter(10/100) and select Properties. 9. Click the Driver tab. 10. Click the Drivers Details button. 11. Highlight the file C:\WINNT\System32\DRIVERS\e100bnt5.sys. 12. File version will be displayed at File version. PROSet II Utility 1. Start Windows 2000. 2. Double-click the Intel PROSet II icon in the system tray. 3. Select the Network Driver tab. You can find version here.
