UniForm-PC Notes -- Release 2.17 -- March 20, 1989

Because UniForm-PC is constantly changing, please be sure to send
in your registration card so we can inform you of new versions
and products.

After UniForm-PC is installed, it will create a new drive letter
on your computer. This often leads to some confusion for new
users. Please read Section 3.1 before using UniForm-PC. It may
save you a call to our technical support line.

To change menus in the UNIFORM program, the menu number must be
followed by a RETURN. This isn't mentioned in the manual because
the UNIFORM program has recently been altered to support more
than 9 menus. If you use the UNIFORM program with command line
options, make sure that you include a /R after specifying a new
menu number.

Superbrain format users: If you get a read error when you try to
use a Superbrain format diskette, run the FIXSUPER program. The
errors occur because the Superbrain computer initializes its
diskettes improperly. The FIXSUPER program is self documenting
and will make your diskettes readable by UniForm-PC.

If you want to use Apple SoftCard or NorthStar format CP/M
diskettes with UniForm-PC, you'll need to install a MatchPoint-PC
card in your computer before those formats will appear in the
UniForm-PC menu. MatchPoint-PC cards are available from your
dealer or Micro Solutions direct.

If you want to add an 8 inch drive to your system, you will need
a Micro Solutions CompatiCard diskette controller. CompatiCard
is a half-size floppy disk controller card for the IBM PC, XT,
AT, or compatibles. It can accomodate up to four drives in any
combination of 5 inch (48 TPI, 96 TPI or high capacity AT), 8
inch, and 3.5 inch models. It also supports single density on
all drives and can be used in computers with non-removeable
diskette controllers.

UniForm-PC allows you to directly access CP/M diskettes as though
they were DOS diskettes. The files are not altered in any way.
Even though you can access CP/M programs, you cannot run them.
If you would like to run CP/M programs on your DOS computer,
you'll need UniDOS. UniDOS creates a complete CP/M version 2.2
compatible environment on your DOS computer. UniDOS even
imitates many popular video terminals which you can select from a
menu. UniDOS is also available with a high speed (8 MHz no wait
state) Z80 card. Contact your dealer or Micro Solutions for
details.

Thank you.

Notes added in October 2009:

Renamed UNIFORM.COM to UNIFORM2.COM

Installation by modifying CONFIG.SYS:
Device=UNIFORM.SYS
Choose disk format by starting UNIFORM.EXE
You can preset a format by starting UNIFORM.EXE with parameters,
e.g. for Kaypro IV you should use the following command line:

uniform 3 /r M /r /e

'3' and 'M' are menu commands,
 '/r' is used for CR,
 '/e' for exit program

uniform.sys can be used also with additional parameters:

Device=uniform.sys AT=+

is used for an PC AT with 1.2MB drive

Device=uniform.sys AT=+ DR=1

is used for an PC AT with an additional 360KB drive

I have used UNIFORM.SYS with an Compaq Portable II with one
360KB drive without any additional parameter and it works fine.

In general '+' or '1' is used for a parameter switched ON,
'-' or '0' for a switched OFF parameter.

Some other parameters:
BC for Background Color, FC for Foreground Color
CL, IN and SE are used for the status line
T1 and T2 are used with a time parameter for warning messages

UNIFORM will not work with newer Pentium based PCs because
timing was made with software delays and not by timer interrupts.
